Xaviera Altena

Xaviera Altena is a Rotterdam-based illustrator born in 1991. She graduated from art school in 2012 where she studied illustration with a minor in photography. Her work encompasses bold linework, poppy colors, and sparse details, referencing modern day issues and news stories combined with 90s pop culture influences. Xaviera addresses social challenges including feminism, social movements, and politics through her colorful, playful style featuring female characters and everyday life scenes. She has worked with The New Yorker, The Guardian, Die Zeit, Apple, Lyft (including a major Times Square campaign in 2020), Vans, MTV, Oxfam Novib, and Playtime. Xaviera was named Playtime's Illustrator of the Year and curates Brainstorm Radio alongside her illustration work. Represented by Tiphaine Illustration.
