"In recent months, possibly inspired by lockdown, I've began to dissect the importance food and cooking has had in my life. Food is the way I remember places, it's my first stop to nostalgia-town, it holds my best memories of childhood. Funnily enough, growing up mixed-raced in Poland with a Ghanian father I could not have been further away from the Asian community and culture. However, Asian inspired dishes were some of the first I took time to learn to cook as a teen. I remember my first set of chopsticks and learning to use them was a priority at the great age of 14. As trivial as it may sound my interest in particular with East Asian cuisine and then art was what in part led me to illustration. The image is of a chef prepping crispy duck at a busy lunch hour in Manchester's Chinatown, on a summer's day prior to lockdown 2."
